how it started

Our story

In 2009, in the middle of an economic slump, Lyle Hruda and his buddy Paul started homebrewing in Lyle’s garage. Lyle was a forklift tech by trade. He’d been servicing equipment at breweries in Eugene, and the brewers there gave him advice and a push.

The batches were five gallons. They always planned on two cases of 22-oz bottles and were always two bottles short. They wrote “Two Shy Brewing” on the garage wall as a joke. It stuck.

Then Dead-On Amber won Best in Class and Best in Show at a homebrew competition, and the joke turned into a business. The Roseburg taproom opened in 2012.

Lyle & Danielle

Lyle is founder, owner and head brewer, and he still pours at the bar. Danielle is co-owner, leans IPA, and runs the giving side of the place. “We want to be somebody that helps the community grow.”

Our fermenters are named after friends, family and the people who helped us get started.

Giving back

Every month a different nonprofit gets a fundraiser at the taproom. Past ones include Saving Grace, CASA of Douglas County, Sleep in Heavenly Peace and Umpqua Watersheds. After the 2020 Labor Day fires we donated to Archie Creek fire recovery.
